SPIN-D Network+ was represented by Co-Lead Professor Georgina Charlesworth at the UCL200 Dementia Research Showcase, held at UCL’s Wilkins Building on 18 September as part of the university’s bicentenary celebrations.
Georgina shared information on SPIN-D Network+ open funding call for ‘Inclusion in Practice’ research.
The event brought together dementia researchers, organisations, people with lived experience and members of the public to explore the breadth of dementia research taking place across UCL. Interactive exhibits, demonstrations, visual displays and creative activities covered topics including dementia diagnosis, brain health, new medicines, artificial intelligence, stem-cell research and the design of dementia-friendly environments.
A strong theme throughout the showcase was the importance of bringing research and communities together. This closely reflects SPIN-D’s approach, which supports new interdisciplinary projects while ensuring that people affected by dementia are meaningfully involved in shaping research and its impact.
The showcase also provided an opportunity to make new connections with researchers and community organisations interested in dementia prevention and improving quality of life for people living with dementia.
The day concluded with a screening of the BBC documentary The Jennings vs Alzheimer’s, followed by a discussion with Stuart Jennings, Professor Nick Fox and Professor Cath Mummery on the research discoveries that have helped transform the outlook for Alzheimer’s disease.
